Sabah – Ford Otosan’s Gebze Engineering Center, third largest of its kind in Ford Motor Company’s European operations, puts engineering skills next to the US auto maker’s “Made in Türkiye” export list consisting of light commercial vehicles (LCV) , trucks and powertrains.
The Turkish-US JV’s engineering services made available to Ford units worldwide totaled USD 50 million in 2011, according to the company’s Director General Haydar Yenigun. “Ford Otosan’s engineering center in Türkiye employs 1200 personnel. This facility creates an extra export income by providing engineering services to Ford. The company aims to increase its engineering revenue to USD 100 million in 2012..”, Yenigun said.
Ford’s Turkish unit holds the first place in LCV sales in the country, commanding nearly 30 percent of the market. The Gebze Engineering Center is currently working on the design and development of a new LCV model, slated to enter production in 2013.
