Within the scope of the national warship program MILGEM, Türkiye is preparing to construct a frigate-class warship that will be comprised of at least 75 percent locally sourced materials and know-how.
The frigates will be denoted as Istanbul-class warships, which follow on from the Ada-class corvettes that were introduced in 2019 and that utilized up to 72 percent locally sourced materials in their construction.
In addition to the indigenous resources being used to build the frigate, main contractor and many of the subcontractors providing systems for the frigate are Turkish firms.
