Milliyet - Sisecam, Türkiye’s leading flat glass and glassware producer, has won the tender held in Germany by BMW for the supply of glass to be used in its new models. Ahmet Kirman, Chairman of Sisecam, said the company has started to grab a market share from the major glass producers in Europe, on the back of their product quality, as well as their cost advantage, a factor that is becoming increasingly important in the world. According to Kirman, their achievement in the tender is a very significant step for Sisecam in the European market, and their business volume will depend on BMW’s production of its new models.
Kirman also said Sisecam will have a 51 percent majority stake in their newly established partnership with France’s Saint Gobain and that the company is also planning to manufacture automobile glass with their new investment in the Tartary province of Kazan, which is slated for completion in 2012. Kirman added that the new investment will cost around USD 320 million.
