DFDS Completes Strategic Acquisition of Ekol Transport, Strengthens Türkiye-Europe Trade Ties

Danish shipping and logistics giant DFDS completed the acquisition of Ekol Lojistik's international land transportation network, marking a significant milestone in strengthening the Türkiye-Europe logistics corridor. Supported by Investment Office, this strategic move underscores DFDS's confidence in Türkiye's growth potential and its pivotal role as a manufacturing and trade hub.

Investment Office provided comprehensive facilitation and support to finalize the acquisition, with Investment Office President A. Burak Dağlıoğlu playing a crucial role in reviving negotiations after earlier setbacks and successfully bringing the parties back to the table to ensure the deal's completion.

The deal aligns seamlessly with DFDS's vision of integrating sea, land, and rail intermodal transportation to deliver end-to-end logistics solutions. By incorporating Ekol's extensive land transportation network into its operations, DFDS will expand its logistics reach across Europe and into Türkiye, enabling more reliable and efficient trade flows.

“This is our second major investment in Türkiye in six years and reflects our strong belief in the potential of the Turkish market," said DFDS CEO Torben Carlsen. “The acquisition enhances our capabilities to support Türkiye's growth as a manufacturing hub while solidifying our transportation infrastructure in the region."

Ekol Lojistik Chairman Ahmet Musul emphasized the strategic nature of the transaction: “Transferring our international land transportation network to our long-standing partner DFDS is a logical and forward-looking decision. This step allows Ekol to focus on our sustainable growth goals in technology, warehouse management, and distribution."

The acquired network will bolster DFDS's existing operations by integrating land transportation with its Mediterranean maritime logistics network, providing DFDS customers with seamless access to end-to-end transportation solutions, including customs services.

DFDS Türkiye Logistics Head Jeppe Skivild expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, “We look forward to working with Ekol's outstanding team as we expand our solutions for customers trading between Türkiye and Europe."

Ekol plans to channel the proceeds from the sale into advancing its sustainable growth initiatives, aiming to strengthen its foothold in innovative logistics technologies.
