According to data issued by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA), Türkiye climbed up one place in the global ranking for auto production in 2008. Türkiye's auto production accounted for 1.6 percent of global production in 2008, while it has increased its auto production 4.3 percent year-on-year, reaching 1.15 million vehicles in 2008. Of the total 1.15 million vehicles produced in Türkiye in 2008, 621,600 were cars, 470,500 were light commercial vehicles, while 36,800 were heavy duty vehicles and 18,100 were buses and minibuses.
