Ford Otosan to design and produce brand new LCV model by 2013

Milliyet - Türkiye’s leading automaker plans to roll out a new light commercial vehicle (LCV) completely designed and built in Türkiye in 2013. The JV between Türkiye’s Koc Group and Ford Motor Company of USA aims to expand its already formidable offerings in the world markets by adding a new and smaller LCV class, according to Ford Otosan General Manager, Nuri Otay.

Ford Otosan’s proven track record in the development of light commercial vehicles and Türkiye’s lively LCV market convinced Ford to hand over all the design and production stages to its Turkish unit, said Otay. Ford Otosan currently builds and exports Transit Connect model vehicles to the world, including Ford’s home country. The LCV will be smaller in size than existing models and is expected to create a class of its own when introduced in 2013. Detailing the development process of the new LCV, Ford Otosan General Manager said that following their concept’s evaluation by Ford Global, Ford Otosan was given the task to design and manufacture the vehicle in Türkiye. “Türkiye’s strong commercial vehicle market is another critical factor in Ford’s decision making,” Otay added.

The project will require USD 205 million of investment in Türkiye, creating hundreds of new jobs. The production of the new LCV is slated to begin in 2013.
