Hyundai to enter European LCV market with Turkish-made van

Aksam/Dünya – Hyundai is preparing to enter the European commercial vehicle market with a Turkish-made light commercial vehicle (LCV), according to sources.

Expected to be unveiled at this year’s Hanover Motor Show, Hyundai’s new commercial vehicle to be manufactured by Karsan in Türkiye will be on the market by 2015, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The two companies had signed a deal for the production of a 3.5-5 ton range commercial vehicle family in 2012. Karsan has also secured the domestic distribution rights of the vehicles to be manufactured for Hyundai, according to a recent statement.

Karsan already produces a range of commercial vehicles for European companies like Renault, Citroen and Peugeot, as well as light trucks for Hyundai at its plant in Bursa.

Türkiye is home to Hyundai’s first overseas production plant, which currently manufactures the i10 and i20 primarily for the European market.
