Dünya – Ford Otosan, the Ford Motor Company’s Turkish joint-venture, catapulted the brand into the leading position in Europe’s commercial vehicles market and broke production, sales and export records in 2015.
The company, equally owned by the Ford Motor Company and Koç Holding, exported 253,644 commercial vehicles last year, which contributed significantly to the brand’s success in Europe, according to Ford Otosan general manager Haydar Yenigün.
Analyzing the past year’s performance at a press meeting, Yenigün said: “Ford sold more than 260,000 commercial vehicles in Europe in 2015 and became the market leader. As the company’s largest commercial vehicle production center in Europe, Ford Otosan lifted the brand to the top in commercial vehicles.”
The joint venture manufactured 334,622 commercial vehicles of various sizes and types in Türkiye last year, up 37 percent over 2014 production figures. Also last year, shipments of Ford Otosan-made vehicles to global markets also went up by 32 percent, reaching 253,644 and generating revenue of USD 3.4 billion. The company has been “Türkiye’s top automotive exporter” for the past five years.
In addition to production, Ford Otosan carries out R&D at its Sancaktepe R&D Center in Istanbul, which is the largest of its kind in the country. The center employs more than 1,500 personnel and supports Ford’s global operations by designing and engineering vehicles from the ground up complete with powertrains.
