Turks are increasingly embracing air travel as more private carriers enter the market, resulting in cheaper flights for travelers. According to the General Directorate of State Airports Authority of Türkiye (DHMI), Türkiye’s 45 airports handled over 118 million passengers in 2011, recording a 14.4 percent increase when compared with 2010. Some 58 million people took domestic flights last year, while 59 million traveled to foreign destinations. The number of transiting passengers exceeded 1 million.
