Yeni Safak – Türkiye and Singapore have announced that they have successfully concluded negotiations for a comprehensive free trade agreement (FTA) to boost their bilateral trade.
Türkiye’s Minister of Economy, Nihat Zeybekci, and Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry, Lim Hng Kiang, have signed a joint statement ending the FTA talks that began in June, 2014. The Türkiye-Singapore FTA will be signed at the G20 Leaders’ Summit, which will be held in Antalya next month.
“The FTA will make Singapore a crucial milestone for Turkish businesses in the Southeast Asia region. Turkish companies and exporters will take full advantage of Singapore’s location at the center of a region with a population of 600 million people,” Minister Zeybekci said at the signing ceremony held in Istanbul’s Conrad Hotel.
The Singaporean Minister Lim Hng Kiang said that Türkiye and Singapore were two countries with a long-standing history of cooperation. “This deal will further deepen our relationship. Singapore will serve as a gateway for Turkish businesses in Southeast Asia while Türkiye’s location gives easy access to Singaporean companies looking to do business in Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa,” he noted.
