Vatan – Türkiye’s award-winning flag carrier, the Turkish Airlines (THY), has carried over 26 million passengers in the first half of the year, earning a net profit of TRY 172 million (approx. USD 80 million), according to a statement made by the company.
Strong second quarter results and the increase in passenger numbers contributed to the carrier’s success which enjoyed a seat occupancy rate of 79 percent in the January-June period. The 26 million air travelers carried by Turkish Airlines in the first six months of 2014 represent a 17 percent increase compared to a year ago while the net profit jumped by 42 percent in the same period.
Turkish Airlines won the title of “Best Airline in Europe” for the fourth consecutive year in 2014 from the world’s largest airline and airport ranking authority, Skytrax. Having one of the largest flight networks in the world, Turkish national air carrier currently flies to 263 destinations in 108 countries.
