Dünya – Canadian aerospace and transportation company Bombardier plans to invest in a manufacturing plant in Türkiye to take part in the country’s expansion of its high-speed rail network.
The company intends to manufacture rail systems in Türkiye with an as-yet-unannounced local partner in the form of a joint venture, according to company officials. “We have already picked a Turkish company as a partner to take part in the government tender,” reports Furio Rossi, Head of Sales SEE & Türkiye for the company. Bombardier plans to invest up to EUR 100 million in manufacturing operations in Türkiye in case of a win in the upcoming tender, scheduled to take place this year.
“Bombardier is fully focused on the planned acquisition of 80 high-speed trains by Turkish State Railways (TCDD), with a manufacturing plant to be set up in Türkiye to fulfill the 50 percent domestically manufactured content requirement of the tender,” said Rossi.
The Turkish government is looking to increase the use of railways and establish high-speed rail lines between the country’s major population centers. Significant investments in the country’s railway network will be realized over the next 10 years, which will increase the length of the network to 26,000 kilometers, nearly double that of today’s 12,000 km. High-speed lines are expected to constitute 10,000 kilometers of the total.
